Protein-Packed Sattu Modak: Guilt-Free Nutrient Bliss!

While traditional modaks are undoubtedly delicious, there’s room to embrace innovation by incorporating nutrient-dense ingredients into this festive treat. Serves: 12 modaks

For the outer covering (Modak shell):
1 cup rice flour
1¼ cup water
A pinch of salt
1 tsp A2 ghee
For the filling (Sattu mixture):
1 cup Sattu (roasted gram flour)
2 tbsp organic jaggery powder (adjust to taste)
¼ cup mix chopped nuts (almonds, pistachios)
2 tbsp grated coconut
½ tsp cardamom powder
2-3 tbsp water (as needed)
Method:
Preparing the Filling:
Combine Sattu, jaggery,chopped nuts , grated coconut and cardamom powder and deep mixing bowl.
Gradually add water and mix until you get a smooth, slightly sticky mixture. The mixture should be easy to shape.Keep aside.
Making of the Modak Shells
In a saucepan, heat water, salt, and ghee. Bring it to a rolling boil. Reduce the heat and gradually add the rice flour while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
Keep stirring until the mixture forms a smooth dough. Turn off the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
Shaping the Modaks
Once the dough is cool enough, knead it well to a smooth texture. Take a small portion of the dough and roll it into a ball. Flatten it to form a small disc. Place a spoonful of the Sattu mixture in the centre of the disc.
Final step of closing the seal
Gently bring the edges together to cover the filling and shape it into a modak. You can use your fingers to create pleats if you like.
Steam the Modaks
Place the modaks on a greased plate or a steaming tray.mSteam them in a steamer for about 10-12 minutes until they become firm and glossy.
Serve: Allow the modaks to cool for a few minutes before removing them from the steamer. Serve them warm or at room temperature
